Mitchell's cousin is Lea Salonga who is a famous musical theater performer and actress. Mitchell attended Rockridge Secondary School before moving onto West Vancouver Secondary. In her teens, she had modeled for several companies around the world. Following trips through Barcelona, Bangkok and Hong Kong she went back to Toronto and studied acting.
